Kozen-ji (Y-14)

From the The Gardens of Yamagata collection.

The stone bridge acts as an anchor in this composition, leading our eyes to the beautiful white magnolia flowers and pink cherry blossoms above it. Before it was taken, there were children gathered under the cherry tree having a spring picnic. We can almost hear their laughter. It was always challenging for William to make vertical compositions, but he was able to find a delicate balance in this photograph. This image feels nostalgic—somehow it reminds us of the romantic Taisho era.
