Before it was taken, there were children gathered under the cherry tree having a spring picnic. We can almost hear their laughter. It was always challenging for William to make vertical compositions, but he was able to find a delicate balance in this photograph. This image feels nostalgic—somehow it reminds us of the romantic Taisho era.
