William wanted to create a composition linking the rain chain with the heart-shaped tsukubai or water basin, which is filled with water that reflects the leaves and blue sky above. The vertical line of the chain, which guides the water to gently trickle down, coincides with one of the columns of the bell tower in the background. William, indeed, is enhancing this garden art with his unique composition. We can almost hear the small dripping sound of the water and the gentle, resonate tone of the bell. This image was used in the poster announcing his exhibition and lecture at the Bunshyoukan Art Museum in Yamagata back in 1998.
