Anraku-ji (2C-75)

From the Spring Gardens in Kyoto collection.

We can play a game to see which section stands out the most. A peaceful juxtaposition of contrasting elements in this composition can be seen as well: dark and light, silhouette and color, sharp/angular and soft/round, vertical and horizontal. Each section is unique, so there is no discernible pattern. We delight in how the round “hat” of a partially visible lantern echoes the roundness of the trimmed bushes.
