Hakuryuen (ALC-28)

From the Peaceful Gardens in Kyoto collection.

At first, our eyes may be drawn to the bright orange-yellow leaves at the top of the image, but if we gradually move our eyes down, we spot the top of a stone lantern quietly situated behind the trees. If we continue moving through the composition in a zig-zag way, we finally come to rest on a cluster of small purple-blue flowers. It is a natural progression for the soul to go from what is obvious and exciting to the small, gentle, and subtle. William is enabling us to harmonize these two contrasting aspects of experience.
