Godai-do (Y-4)

This temple, originally built in 860 AD, was visited by the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho in July of 1689. He left one of his most famous haiku here: Deep silence—  /  the shrill of the cicadas  /  seeps into the rock. (trans by Gabi Greve). From this observation platform we see the mountains across the way at almost the same height as the platform, and nestled between them is the small town of Monzen. In the panoramic format we are able to experience the vastness of the scenery, and feel at peace in the crisp air. When this image is seen as a large mural-size print, you will feel as though you are standing at this actual spot looking out into the world.
