下鴨神社 (京都府京都市左京区下鴨泉川町59)

The formal name for this shrine is “Komomioya-Jinja / 賀茂御祖神社” It is a Shinto shrine, and it was built for the creator/guardian deity, Kamotaketsunomi-no-mikoto / 賀茂建角身命and his daughter, Tamayorihime-no-mikoto / 玉依媛命. The history of this shrine may go back at least 2000 years. William always loved the bridge since he wanted to take the role to become the bridge between the US and Japan for the better understanding of each other through photography, and he wanted to convey the beauty he had found in Japanese gardens. “Water and bridges represent the flow of time, the movements of arriving and departing, of coming into existence and passing out of it.”

- William Corey
