Kyoto, Japan

Katsura Rikyu is an Imperial Villa built during the 17th Century A.D. It formerly belonged to the Hachijō-no-miya (八条宮) family. William was the first foreigner to have received the official permission to take the picture of the Imperial Villa and the garden. “A garden design in which the tempter becomes the tempted, the unknown becomes the known, the known becomes the unknown, and, with the slightest shift in viewpoint, the world changes completely-and consequently a garden design in which countless shifts in viewpoint can reveal countless views of the world-this is the distinctive feature of a stroll garden.”

- William Corey
