下鴨神社 (京都府京都市左京区下鴨泉川町59)

The formal name for this shrine is “Komomioya-Jinja / 賀茂御祖神社” It is a Shinto shrine, and it was built for the creator/guardian deity, Kamotaketsunomi-no-mikoto / 賀茂建角身命and his daughter, Tamayorihime-no-mikoto / 玉依媛命. The history of this shrine may go back at least 2000 years. William had the interesting way of guiding viewer’s eyes. For example, if you pay attention, one can see the slight gap between the diagonal line of the side of the roof in the foreground and the tip of the roof of the shrine in the background. Due to this gap, the eyes can glide through the lines without any interruption.
