Kyoto, Japan

龍源院 ( 京都府京都市北区紫野)

It was established in 1502A.D. This image captures the Zen garden (kare san sui / 枯山水) within the premise called, “Isshi dan / 一枝坦”. There are 5 gardens in this temple. One can meditate on these zen gardens. The simple structure of “Kare san sui” is quite unique. The white sands/stones may represent water/vast sea while the rocks and the moss may represent the mountains on an island. Circular shape of the white sands/stones may represent the ripple or whirlpool. The mystery of the universe may unfold on the mind of the viewer.
